The bottom line is mixed, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Americans are imbibing alcohol and overeating more yet are smoking less (<em style=\"margin:0;padding:0;border:0;outline:0;font-size:16px;vertical-align:baseline;background-color:transparent;background-position:initial initial;background-repeat:initial initial;\">black lines in center graphs<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 25px;padding:0;border:0;outline:0;font-size:16px;vertical-align:baseline;background-color:transparent;line-height:24px;background-position:initial initial;background-repeat:initial initial;\">Some of the behaviors have patterns; others do not. Obesity is heaviest in the Southeast (<em style=\"margin:0;padding:0;border:0;outline:0;font-size:16px;vertical-align:baseline;background-color:transparent;background-position:initial initial;background-repeat:initial initial;\">2010 maps<\/em>). Smoking is concentrated there as well. Excess drinking is high in the Northeast.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0 0 25px;padding:0;border:0;outline:0;font-size:16px;vertical-align:baseline;background-color:transparent;line-height:24px;background-position:initial initial;background-repeat:initial initial;\">Comparing 2010 and 1995 figures provides the greatest insight into trends (<em style=\"margin:0;padding:0;border:0;outline:0;font-size:16px;vertical-align:baseline;background-color:transparent;background-position:initial initial;background-repeat:initial initial;\">maps, far right<\/em>). Heavy drinking has worsened in 47 states, and obesity has expanded in every state. Tobacco use has declined in all states except Oklahoma and West Virginia.
